Georgia High School Fencing League:
The league was founded in the 2003-2004 school year and now boasts nine schools: Alpharetta, Chattahoochee, Centennial, Lassiter, Milton, North Gwinnett, Northview, Pope, and Roswell. The league chairman is Terry White from Roswell High School, Kathy Vail, a co-founder of the league, is vice-chairman, and Mitchell Silverman is the secretary-treasurer. Tournaments are held approximately once a month during the fencing season. Medals are awarded to the top eight finishers in the women`s and men`s events. Points are awarded to the top 12 finishers and are accumulated by school. The point total is used to determine the top men's team, the top women's team, and overall champion school as well as top individuals. Trophies are awarded at the championship tournament. New for 2007! Medals will be awarded to the top eight placing novices in the men's an women's competitions at each tournament. A separate award will be given at the end of the year to the top novice individuals and teams. Fencing is currently a club sport in Georgia.
